allergies & dermatology

Itch is a medical condition that can cause serious complications and get in the way of the fun your pet has with you and your family. We offer pet allergy and dermatology services to keep your pet healthy.

We will run a number of diagnostic tests in our in-house lab to determine the cause. Sometimes blood work, skin scrapings, and biopsies will be needed to help determine the best treatment plan.

Dermatological issues we can help with:

  • Allergies (food and/or environmental)
  • Infections (acute or chronic)
  • Parasites
  • Dermatitis
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Tumors
  • Skin cancer

We develop a custom treatment plan for your pet, designed to achieve the best possible results based on the diagnosis.

One of the treatment methods we commonly recommend is Cytopoint, which is a new therapy shown to help relieve the signs of dermatitis in dogs. After just one treatment, many patients experience a significant reduction in symptoms and subsequent scratching, licking, chewing and biting at the skin. When itching is properly controlled, the damaged skin is allowed to heal, which helps improve quality of life.

Some allergies can be managed through lifestyle changes, such as switching food products, while others may require a longer-term strategy.

Symptoms to look out for include:

  • Excessive scratching
  • Scabbing or flaking of the skin
  • Hot spots
  • Shedding more than usual
  • Biting, chewing or licking at the affected area
  • Bumps or lumps on or under the skin
  • Hair loss
  • Body odor

“Great staff and doctors!”

My cat was very sick and the wonderful staff managed to find time to examine her on a busy Saturday even though I didn't have an appointment. Dr. Jonas was very caring and took excellent care of my kitty! Thanks again for the great service! – Angelina
