Dr. Kim Emery

Veterinarian and Medical Director

The majority of Dr. Kim Emery’s after-school activities while growing up were related to animals. She raised rabbits, sheep, and even a goose for the 4-H organization, and was also involved in raising a puppy for the Guide Dogs for the Blind program. She’s known that she wanted to help animals as a veterinary professional for as long as she can remember!

Dr. Emery is originally from Southern California, her veterinary career began there when she started volunteering for a local animal clinic during high school. She then attended the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, earning her Bachelor’s degree in animal science, before working locally for several years as a veterinary assistant. Next, Dr. Emery headed overseas to attend veterinary school in Dublin, Ireland. She remained there for six years while finishing her degree and interning in small animal medicine.

Dr. Emery joined the Linwood Animal Clinic family in the summer of 2007 after she and her family moved to the Portland area. Her favorite pars of the job is puppy and kitten visits-for her, there’s nothing better than seeing how quickly a bond forms between a new pet and their owner. Dr. Emery is proud to be the first to educate pet owners on the importance of preventative care, proper socialization and training. In 2019, Dr. Emery became certified in veterinary acupuncture. She enjoys helping senior pets with their arthritis and mobility issues.

Dr. Emery lives with her twin son and daughter, one dog, one cat and 2 geckos named Neville and Dazzle. When she isn’t spending time with her family and pets or tending to animals here at the clinic, Dr. Emery enjoys camping, paddle boarding, reading, traveling and participating in 10K’s and half-marathons.

Dr. Jonas

Dr. Elissa Jonas

Associate veterinarian

Dr. Elissa Jonas grew up in Midland, Michigan with her parents, older sister, and a wide variety of family pets. Most of her animal companions were strays first, brought home and introduced to the family by Dr. Jonas herself. Ever since she can remember, she’s had a passion for bettering the lives of the earth’s creatures—working in veterinary medicine allows her to do that on a daily basis! Dr. Jonas is proud to serve as an Associate Veterinarian with the Linwood Animal Clinic family.

Thanks to her high proficiency in math, science, and art, Dr. Jonas first decided to attend architecture school at the University of Cincinnati. After a few years of study and an internship, she started to realize that her heart wasn’t truly in the work. Dr. Jonas moved back home and finished her undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of Michigan; it was during this time that she started volunteering for the Ann Arbor Humane Society and rediscovered her passion for helping animals. Dr. Jonas restructured the rest of her classes to complete her prerequisites for veterinary school, and was accepted into the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995—the rest is history!

After graduating with her Doctorate, Dr. Jonas moved to Oregon to launch her career in animal medicine. She first started working with the Linwood Animal Clinic team as a Relief Veterinarian nearly 15 years ago, and she’s been a member of the hospital family ever since. Dr. Jonas now serves the area’s pets and animal owners as a part-time Associate Veterinarian, and particularly enjoys working hands-on with patients to provide immediate relief. She’s also fond of working with senior cats, treating abscesses, and dealing with the various skin and allergy problems that pets often suffer from thanks to Oregon’s finicky climate.

When she isn’t working to improve the lives of the area’s pets here at the hospital, Dr. Jonas likes crafting, sewing, working on home-improvement projects in her fixer-upper, traveling, and spending quality time at home with her own pets. She has two cats—Pacman, adopted directly from a client of Dr. Jonas’s, and Cleveland, who came from the Oregon Humane Society—as well as a blind dog named Sam who doesn’t let his disability slow him down in the least.
