Holiday Gifts for Cats

Have you finished your holiday shopping yet? If not, you’re not the only one! While we may not be much help with deciding what to pick out for your friends and family members, we can offer suggestions for what to get your cat. Here, a Happy Valley, OR vet lists some great gifts for kitties.

Toys make great gifts for our feline pals. Classic cat toys, like catnip mice or wand toys, are always great options. If you want to get your pet something a little more modern, offer her an automated laser pointer, a robotic mouse, or a mechanical ‘swimming’ fish.

Kitties all have their own unique tastes, especially when it comes to treats. Store bought treats are fine. You can also give your cat some canned tuna, or a little shredded deli meat. Don’t give Fluffy milk, however: despite popular misconceptions, it actually isn’t safe for pets.

As you’ve likely noticed, cats are pretty sleepy. Fluffy can spend up to 20 hours a day snoozing! Get your drowsy pet a new bed or two.

Cat Furniture

Cats are very good at making themselves comfortable, and can certainly manage to sleep on our couches, beds, and chairs. However, it’s really good for kitties to have some things that suit their needs. Get your feline pal a cat tower, or perhaps a pet tent or tipi. Wall-mounted furniture is also a good option.

Kitty Garden

Kitties are both safer and healthier living inside, where she is protected from the dangers posed by cars, weather, wild animals, and other hazards. You can still give an indoor cat a taste of nature, by setting out some pet-safe plants for her. Check the ASPCA website for a list of suggestions.

Window Seat

Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite activities. Set up a comfy spot for your feline pal, so she can relax and watch birds and squirrels.

If you’re working with a tight budget, look online for great DIY ideas. There are lots of great presents that you can make for your cat using ordinary household items. Also, don’t forget to give your cat some of the empty boxes once everyone’s done opening gifts. Kitties love empty boxes!

Happy Holidays! Please feel free to contact us, your Happy Valley, OR animal clinic, for all of your cat’s veterinary care needs. We’re happy to assist!
